Mid Autumn Festival Luncheon

The Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated on 24 September this year. The festival is marked on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar, and is celebrated in China and many other Asian countries.

Traditionally, families and friends would get together to share fruits and mooncakes, and express their gratitude for their annual harvest (hence giving it the name of Autumn Harvest Festival). As more and more people move into urban cities, the tradition of bringing out fruits, lanterns, mooncakes is retained, however most importantly, everyone gathers to observe the roundest, brightest moon of the year.

As such, it was wonderful to join with many local community leaders at the Mid Autumn Festival Luncheon on 23 September 2018, hosted by Chinese Community Association of Tasmania, at their North Hobart Clubhouse.
