A Chinese New Year celebration, hosted by Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Melbourne, was held at the grounds of its headquarters in Toorak, Melbourne. Many Tasmanian Chinese community leaders travelled to Melbourne to join with Melbourne Chinese community leaders in a joint celebration for both the Victorian and Tasmanian Chinese communities. The evening began with a lion dance, followed by formalities including speeches by Consul General Zhao Jian, and the Hon. Bruce Atkinson MLC, member of the Legislative Council of Victoria. The audience enjoyed cultural performances including contemporary and traditional dance showcases.
