Along with over 450 attendees including the Governor of Tasmania, Premier of Tasmania as well as numerous State and local politicians, community and business leaders, school groups and others, the Academy attended the National Reconciliation Week southern breakfast, held on the morning of 13 August.
The event was originally scheduled to be hosted during National Reconciliation Week, however COVID-19 lockdowns delayed meant that the guest speaker, Professor Marcia Langton of Melbourne, was unable to fly down at the time. Prolonged lockdowns however meant she was still unable to fly down in August, and she attended the event virtually.
Professor Langton gave a powerful address, speaking about the significance of 'reconciliation' and that First Nations people and non-Aboriginal people should walk together to close the gap.
